PROJECT 1A | PRE-DESIGN ANALYSIS
Pre-design analysis
1. Brief historical background of the place and site
2. Reviewing building code and local or city ordinance
3. Initiative on establishing design parameters
4. Take initiative consider and study solar analysis and other site specific analysis
5. Research on precedents or do actual visitation to projects related and directly relevant to the proposal
6. Research on demography, user profile and understanding who we are designing for
1. Formulate a simple brief that include appropriate architectural programme and planning within a selected architectural context.
2. Analyse case studies to gain understanding of architectural responses and strategies of an intentional design strategy to inform the design project.
3. Conduct contextual and user analysis in the pre-design phase.
Based on the pre-design phase, develop a simple, brief and yet comprehensive presentation.
Presentation can be in a form of video, slide and others that can capture people, place and time on the given site.
SITE: JUNCTION BETWEEN JALAN P RAMLEE AND JALAN SULTAN ISMAIL
PROJECT 1B 1C | FINAL DESIGN
Design Narrative:
The site is at a transition point between the ‘klcc district’ and ‘kl tower district’. Therefore it is always unnoticed and incapable to bring in harmony of the existing complex contemporary condition. It never move towards resolution, but continuously expanding. It is a space of otherness, the heterotopia.
The site is sandwiched between globalization and localization. Culture of the site is quite inperceptible. What is the ethnography of the site? The purpose of the cultural hub is to encourage social exchange as well as to provide an environment to be immersed & experience in the culture.
The klcc area brings in huge amount of foreigners, passing through the site everyday, mainly tourists, which consists of both asians and caucasians, while the kl tower area brings in huge amount of white collar as well, passing through the site everyday, mainly during lunch hour. There are also local stall vendors nearby the site. So, what if using what exists to be create what it is to be, these two distinctive groups of people exchange and share, their attitudes, culture, activities, interests, values and opinions, would it bring new layers of reciprocity to the site? Creating a cultural hub with its own behavioural culture, layered with exchanged culture. To bring out the ethnography of the site, and bring people’s focus to the site.
