project 1 | A PERSONAL SPACE
The rise of alternative education programs (AEP) in the country has attract the attention of many parents as the different programs offers various opportunities in developing a child’s unique strengths. In order to understand further the relationship of children to the environment, anchored by the thought of nurturing the younger generation, it is important for the architectural students to be exposed to the process of creating architecture to suit the need of this rising trend.
In this introductory exercise, students are to design an outdoor personal space that is flexible, lightweight as well as safe with all mechanisms being simple and easy to operate. Materials for its construction are from sustainable sources and weather proof. It is of multipurpose; must be able to accommodate/support a user’s activity/-ies which include ties back to ONE or more key characteristics of AEP in general based on their research, observation and interview. Students must be able to demonstrate its ability to function in a real world situation.
project 2
Site Analysis Presentation
PRIMARY SCHOOL FOR ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION
The project calls for a design of a school for a selected Alternative Education Program for primary years students in a suburban area with some complexity that includes the complexity of site topography and vegetation and socio-cultural events. Students are required to provide full design proposal incorporating precedent study and site analysis at appropriate level of presentation. It explores design solution that responds to the choice of AEP, context of the site and conditions for human and environment sustainability. Students explore design solutions that reduce environmental impact utilizing clustered spatial typology and passive energy. The design should contribute to and merge harmoniously with nature and the site, and provide the best of experiences for the users.
